It appears that with what Teresa and I call “the modern Marples” that they do well expanding the short stories (like “The Blue Geranium”) but not so well shoehorning MM into a novel, like “The Secret of Chimneys.” This was not as incoherent as “Chimneys,” but still… Timothy Dalton aged well since his Bond days, and he played the villain so wonderfully in “Hot Fuzz” that I was looking forward to this. Five wayward teenage girls are sent to a reformatory and discover they possess unique powers to battle the ancient demon. Some lovely moments, but boy did they try to jam ten pounds of plot in a five-pound episode. Last night’s cheese plate with Agatha was “The Sittaford Mystery” (2006).
